Angry Barry: Rage We Can Believe In

Politics and video games usually don't mix. Apparently beating up zombies and shooting magical fireballs at dragons is much more interesting than Senate Subcommittees or Whig Party caucuses. Only a small handful of games involving politics or political figures have ever been released. And those are mostly obscure campaign related PC games like Howard Dean for Iowa, or John McCain's exciting Pork Busters.

That is all about to change, thanks to the folks at Arrogancy Games who have just released a hilarious political themed game on Xbox Live Marketplace called Angry Barry. Yes, they're talking about that Barry, as in President Barack Obama. Why is Barry so angry? Keep reading to find out.

Angry Barry is a throwback to the side scrolling beat 'em ups of the 8bit era. The developers' web site specifically cites Data East's classic arcade hit Bad Dudes as one of the inspirations for this title. However, instead of being feebly kidnapped by ninjas like in the original Bad Dudes, Angry Barry turns the President into a lean mean ass kicking machine. Obama must fight through waves of his political rivals' minions, armed with nothing but Hope, Change and some vicious combos. Barack will also face a slew of hilarious bosses, including Hillary Clinton, a robotic Ronald Reagan, a gun toting Sarah Palin and the floating demon head of George W Bush.

Angry Barry is the completely true story of Barack Obama's unlikely journey to become President of the United States. Obama's brutal street fights against followers of his Democratic primary opponents and vicious Republican partisans are lovingly recreated in this game.

Don't expect a deep gameplay experience, as Angry Barry is strictly a punch-kick-repeat affair. Political junkies will love Angry Barry's style, while non wonks may find themselves scratching their heads at points (Why is he throwing shoes at George Bush? Who is that screaming guy with the microphone who pops up from time to time?). Hardcore Republicans will probably hate this game, but you can't please everyone.

For the low low price of 400 Microsoft Points, Angry Barry is very fiscally conservative. You definitely won't need a bailout in order to afford this crazy title.

After a few minutes of Obama butt kicking action, we're ready to proclaim Angry Barry our favorite political video game of all time. To be fair, it didn't take much to earn this honor, as the only other two titles in the running were the Japanese Xbox title Metal Wolf Chaos, and the obscure Atari 2600 game William Howard Taft in Fisticuffs on the Potomac.
