The Bandai Famicom game, Kinnikuman Muscle Tag Match: Championship Commemorative Gold Edition sold for a cool $10,023 USD on the Japanese Yahoo! Auction site. One of only eight copies of the game ever produced, the cartridges were given out as prizes for the Kinnikuman Muscle Tag Match tournaments that were held at eight locations across Japan in the Famicom craze of the mid 1980's. The game is incredibility rare fetching far more than Konami's rare non-retail title that recently went up for auction, The Gentle Physics and Science of Hazardous Materials.
The increasing frequency of rare tiles making their way on to internet auction sites illustrates the dire nature of the economy not only here in the US, but worldwide. When the ultra-rare PowerFest 1994 cart showed up on eBay, not once, but twice, the owner was looking to sell quickly. On top of the PowerFest ’94 cart, three copies of the NES World Championship Cart showed up on eBay in 2008 as well as a copy of Stadium Events for the NES. Hit the jump for a look at the super rare Kinnikuman Muscle Tag Match: Championship Commemorative Gold Edition, pics included!
The game itself was not very highly rated, but regardless, any collector looking for an ultra-rare game to round out a Famicom collection would not be disappointed. Take a look at some pics to see what a $10,000 game looks like.
Looks like any ordinary Famicom game, doesn't even have a cool case!
It’s a wrestling game on the Famicom, that's about it. A winner is you!
