Konami Famicom Game sells for $4,213

The Gentle Physics and Science of Hazardous Materials is not a game per se but more of a piece of software that Konami developed for oil company Idemitsu Kosan in 1990. The Famicom game uses an adapter called the Q-ta to run on the system and was used as a training tool for employees who no doubt thought they got the coolest training tool ever. This collector's item showed up on Yahoo! Auctions in Japan with an opening bid of just ¥1,000 (about $10) and closed at a whopping ¥401,010 (about $4, 213) making it a fairly pricey piece of software.

The game was never offered for retail sale and probably won’t be ‘played’ by the winning bidder, but rather kept in a case as the centerpiece of a video game collection. The box art is extremely colorful with the "Space College" logo and a short skirted vixen reminiscent of Ulala from Space Channel 5 inviting players to learn about the Gentle Physics and Science of Hazardous Materials. The box is surprisingly colorful and enticing for a training program, no doubt making employees all the more happy when 'playing' the game at home. The Famicom cart looks a little taller than normal but otherwise is just another game with an adapter, for more pics check out the Yahoo! Auction site.
