Seriously? Two More NES World Championship Carts Pop Up On Ebay.

Last week we showcased an Ebay auction for one of the rarest and most sought after games of all time, the NES World Championship cart. We thrilled at catching this super rare specimen of video game history and were amazed at it's massive $4260 sale price. We thought that it would be a while before another one would reach the auction block.

Apparently, we were wrong. At the time of this writing, there are now two NES World Championship carts up for sale on Ebay. So much for rarity, at this rate the World Championship carts will outnumber copies of Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing by the end of the year. (Nigel shows up a lot when searching for "NES World Championship" on Ebay.) As the economy takes a nosedive, more and more collectors are being forced to sell off their prized collections in order to make ends meet. We wouldn't be surprised if another World Championship cart or two (or even a mythical gold version) ends up on the auction block before Christmas.

Keep reading for pics and more info on this new pair of holy grail auctions.

This is the first of the two carts. As you can see, the label has been pretty much torn off. The only identifying feature is the NES Championship Cart's special outer dip switch set. Despite the poor physical condition of the cartridge, the asking price on this auction is a hefty $5999!

The second specimen up for bid looks a little better. The label is mostly intact with a moderate amount of wear. You even get a special bonus, the event program from the actual Nintendo World Championships. However, much like in the first auction, there is a very high asking price. The bidding starts at $5,500, which is a little less than the previous auction, but still over a thousand dollars more than the last World Championship Cart sold for.

While it is exciting to see so many rare games coming out of the woodwork, these auctions aren't going to be very exciting to watch. Their prohibitively high opening prices will most likely not spark the fierce bidding war that occurred in last week's auction. It will be interesting to see if any collectors will bite and pay upwards of $6000 on a game that sold for much less only a week prior.
