Too Much Good Stuff: A Shameless Promotional Pictorial

Usually when something new and exciting comes in to one of our stores, we'll put up a little blurb about it up in that update box near the top of the page. But lately, we've been getting so many good trades in that we couldn't possibly list all of them in that woefully small box.

So instead, we took a few pictures of some of the neat new stuff we've gotten in. Hit the jump for some tasty eye candy (and try not to make too much fun of us for our substandard photography skills, camerawork is hard!).

As you can see, our rare case is bursting with a variety of cool new games. Let's take a little closer look....

If you look out the window to your left, you will see a small army of cool SNES RPGs. We've got Squaresoft (pre-Enix merger) favorites Final Fantasy II and Secret of Mana, as well as Breath of Fire 1 and 2. All of these games are still in their original boxes along with all the original manual and maps! (Back in the pre-internet days, good RPGs would usually come with a small library of maps, item lists, bestiaries, mini walkthroughs, and if you were really lucky, maybe even some toys.)

If Boxed games aren't your thing, how about Ogre Battle 64, Lufia II for the SNES (soon to be reimagined on the DS), or Umihara Kawase?

We've also got not one, but two different versions of Chrono Trigger to choose from. There's the original SNES cart that started it all, or the hard to find Japanese PS1 version, complete with special anime cutscenes (the US would eventually get this version in the Final Fantasy Chronicles collection).

We're sure by now that the real gem of this collection has already caught your eye. No, not Valkyrie Profile or Grandia, not the frantic Dreamcast shmup Mars Matrix, not Rockman Battle and Fighters for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, not even the TurboVision (it'll let you watch analog TV on your TurboExpress! You do have a TurboExpress, right? If not, just keep reading and we might be able to help you.).

No, the real diamond in this picture is obviously the awesome boxed copy of Alien Vs Predator for the Atari Jaguar! That's right, you are looking at the very best that the 64 bits of medium-to-high-def action of Atari's magnum opus had to offer! Alien Vs Predator is considered to be one of the Holy Trinity of Atari Jaguar games, along with Tempest 2000 and White Men Can't Jump.

On this side of the case, we give Sega a little love with a nice little collection of Saturn and Sega CD games. Two of the more obscure games in the Shining Series, Shining the Holy Ark and Shining Wisdom, are hanging out with Burning Rangers, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for the Sega CD, and Albert Odyssey.

Lounging against the side of the case, we find Dragon Warrior 2,3 and 4 for the NES. These extremely hard to find games (the Dragon Warrior games never found the same explosive popularity as their Japanese counterparts) are not only sporting sexy black Nintendo sleeves, but DW 2 and 4 also come with their original manuals and maps! We also have a copy of Dragon Warrior 1 with its original accroutements, but it's not pricey enough to make it into the rare case (a hard task considering the game was originally given away for free in Nintendo Power).

Rounding out this portion of the tour, we see both Suikoden 1 and 2, Bangai-O, Street Figter III: Third Strike (which we believe is the tenth or eleventh game in the series, according to the convoluted Street Fighter naming system), and Power Stone 2.

Oh, and there's that Saturn game, Radiant Somethingorother. We hear it's pretty good...

Nestled between the awesome Treasure shooter Silhouette Mirage and Thunder Force V is one of the most obscure and hard to find titles for the Sega Saturn. Crows: The Battle Action for Sega Saturn (yes, that really is its proper name) is a side scrolling beat 'em up which allegedly had a print run of only around 5000 copies, making it quite difficult to find.

Wait a minute! Is that who we think it is? Yes, it's PG's unofficial hero and guardian of all things Sega Saturn, Segata Sanshiro!

Veteran readers will know that we have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Segata Sanshiro. Perhaps it's the way he frightens small children, his blind hatred of playing outside, or his ultimate heroic sacrifice. Now you too can see what the fuss is about by taking home the official game of the greatest video game spokesperson of all time!

Leaving the case and stepping outside for a moment, you can now see our growing collection of various consoles. We've got all the favorites like SNES, Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64 (in funtastic colors!), Dreamcast (including the black Sega Sports version, and Gamecube.

But everybody already knows about the more common and popular systems. We're sure that you're here to see the more uncommon stuff. Right now, we've got a nice variety of higher end systems including the FZ-10 variant of the 3DO (not the more common FZ-1 or Goldstar model), an Atari Jaguar and a Jaguar CD (in case 64 bits isn't good enough for you), and a Neo Geo AES (the Cadillac of early 90's home consoles).

We also have a very exciting trio of boxed portable systems including the Atari Lynx, the Sega Nomad (better stock up on batteries before you buy this one), and the Turbo Express! Whip one of these bad boys out at the next PAX DS party and get ready to bask in the awe of your fellow gamers (that really is awe, trust us).

Oh, and let's not forget our most important item in the case: our expansive Donkey Kong Bongo collection. If you've ever wanted a set of DK Bongos to go with your copy of Donkey Konga or DK Jungle Beat, we've got you totally covered. We've got boxed Bongos, loose Bongos, Bongos bundled with games and many more. Take advantage of our vast Bongo hoard now, or forever wallow in your sad Bongo-less existence.

If you're visiting Pink Gorilla, it's always a good idea to look up from time to time because you never know what may be hiding on the ceiling or up on the top of the shelves. In this picture, we capture on of the elusive consoles of the early days of gaming, the Odyssey²!.

The Odyssey² was a lesser known contemporary of the Atari 2600. Although it never had the success of the 2600 or Intellivision, the Odyssey did have a number of claims to fame, including a full keyboard built into the console, one of the first voice synthesizers, and a very cool set of tabletop/video game hybrids called the Master Strategy series.

Sitting over in our handheld game case, we find a number of cool boxed GBA games, including Megaman Zero, Golden Sun, and even Fire Emblem! It's hard enough to find just the carts themselves, much less complete boxed versions.

Up until now, a lot of our older boxed games were hiding in drawers down near the ground where nobody could see them. But recently we've freed many of them from their dark prison and placed them in a real case where people can see them and appreciate them!

Here we see a lineup of American Saturn games, with Panzer Dragoon, Virtual-On and Legend of Oasis prominently displayed. (Why yes, those are both of the Die Hard Saturn games. Thanks for noticing, Bruce Willis will be so happy!)

Here are some boxed NES and SNES games for your viewing pleasure. Hey, there's Turtles in TIme! The best TMNT game ever!

Oh, and look! Castlevania II for the NES!

Ooh, and there's Al Unser Jr's Road to the Top! What? Not impressed? Oh well, you can't win them all....

Our final stop on the tour is the DS case, where you will find two very fine examples of that sad unbreakable rule which states: "Japan will always get the very best custom game systems". Here you will see a pair of ultra-cool ultra-rare Final Fantasy edition Nintendo handhelds.

First off, we've got the FF IV version Game Boy Micro. Micros are hard enough to find these days without this slick little number staring us in the face. If you can find the courage to open this majestic package, you will find not only a Micro with a neat Final Fantasy inspired faceplate, but also a copy of the Japanese version of FF IV.

The other special package is the Final Fantasy III edition DS Lite. Much like its smaller cousin, the FF III DS is emblazoned with a special Final Fantasy logo, and comes with a copy of its namesake game.

If that doesn't get you all excited for a trip down to your friendly neighborhood PG, we don't know what will (well, perhaps a few more copies of Shaq-Fu, but we're not miracle workers). Be sure to check back in a few days as we post a few of the cool new things the U-District store has to offer.
